Shel Burkes, PhD. is a graduate of University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she studied bioinformatics and data science. Following graduate studies, she was granted a collaborative postdoctoral fellowship with the University of California for the advancement of research opportunities and career development for scholars whose work will enhance overall diversity of the academic community. Shel has specialty interests in academia and industry, with expertise including genomics, variant analysis, and predictive modeling with machine learning. Her work has grown to encompass more bioinformatics and additional data science methodologies, with her most recent work focusing on classification, image processing and in-depth variant analysis.
